About Amalia Vazquez
My name is Amalia Vazquez. I'm the owner of Tierra del Sol.

I am originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, and I specialize in Oaxacan food, ranging from delicious tacos and quesadillas to specialized regional inspirations like Tlayudas, mole enchiladas, and tamales. I started my business in 2013 by selling my food at King farmers market in NE Portland and I found many customers excited about my unique food. Now, In Spring 2015 I expanded my business to the Portland Mercado and opened a food truck. My cuisine now is available year round!
I also cater through the Micro-Mercantes online platform supported by Hacienda CDC.

Thank you for all who have tasted our food, and keep coming back. We strive to share the beauty of Oaxaca.
“How far away I am from the land where I was born”
“Oh land of the sun, I long to see you”
“Tierra del Sol” means land of the sun in Spanish, it is a dream made reality by two immigrants Juan and Amalia. They dreamed of sharing their culture through Oaxacan cuisine, a land they love and long for. The name Tierra del Sol comes from a famous son written by a Oaxacan composer who wrote about his longing for his home Oaxaca, The Land of the Sun.
Amalia grew up making tortillas by hand with her grandmother, an act she describes as her favorite chore. From tlayudas to aguas frescas, to enchiladas and tetelas, these homemade dishes will make you feel at home instantly. Using family recipes, Tierra Del Sol sues organic masa for tortillas, compostable utensils, and sources ingredients locally. They share with us the original flavor and their love for Oaxaca by remaining committed to a sustainable food system. With the help of Hacienda & Micro Mercantes, in 2013 Tierra Del Sol began catering and selling at the King Farmers Market. Today, Tierra del Sol gives thanks for your support and the opportunity to open its doors at the Portland Mercado.
